This years CROP Walk raised almost $11,000 to support both global and local efforts to combat hunger. Held on September 30, 163 people from 20 different faith communities or organizations gathered to walk on the Lakewalk as a symbol of solidarity with people around the world who live in the shadow of hunger.
Many thanks to all who participated in and helped to organize the walk. Puzzle PIece, a kids' choir sprovided some wonderful music during the registration time. Miners Foods donated cookies for the walk, and McDonalds donated the drink. And the sun shined on all who walked on a beautiful fall afternoon.
In terms of participation and fundraising, First Lutheran led us with 28 participants and $1,885.25. Special thanks goes out to Paul Steklenski of Gloria Dei who raised $1,220 as an individual. His commitment to ask his friends, neighbors, and acquaintances to take a stand against hunger is truly an inspiration.
Coordinated by Church World Service on behalf of itself and many interfaith partners, the CROP Walk also benefits agencies in the Twin Ports. Twenty-five percent of the proceeds will be distributed between:
On a global level, proceeds support Church World Service and their efforts to address hunger around the world. For more information on the CROP Walk and how Church World Service partners in an ecumenical, interfaith, and multicultural effort to end hunger, click here.
